Pumps
2 Speed Pump
Two-Speed Pumps are typically adequate for older pools. The two speeds of the motor are preset and cannot be adjusted. The high speed is used when more water flow is needed; for example using a pool cleaner, starting up your roof-mounted solar heater, or after backwashing your Diatomaceous Earth (DE) or sand filter. Otherwise, the majority of your filtration should be done on the low speed. A two-speed pump and motor will need a controller capable of switching the motor speeds automatically.

IntelliFlo 4x160
The IntelliFlo® 4x160 is the best defense against rising energy costs!
Until now, pool pumps have operated at one or two speeds, near the top of their range, leading to higher energy usage and faster wear. Now there’s a dramatically superior choice. The IntelliFlo® 4x160 high performance pump is the first programmable, variable speed technology pump that allows programming of four different speeds (each between 400 and 3,450 RPMs) for four different jobs. The increased energy-efficiency provides typical energy savings of 30% annually.

Incredible efficiency and breakthrough performance:
• Typical energy savings of 30% can total hundreds of dollars per year.
• Service life of critical parts is dramatically extended because the pump
is always working at peak efficiency.
• IntelliFlo 4x160 is quieter than a whisper, emitting just 7-10 decibels.
• Simply dial pump speed up or down to change water flow and
multiply the effects of your water features.
• Easily linked to EasyTouch® pool and spa control systems for
even greater convenience and control.

IntelliFlo
Reduce energy cost by as much as 90%!
IntelliFlo constantly monitors water flow and electrical current, making sure that the filtration system is operating at peak efficiency. And that means energy savings never before possible - up to 90% over conventional pumps.

How is this possible?
Well, that's still our secret. But inside every IntelliFlo is an "intelligence" constantly monitoring water flow and electrical current, and making sure that the filtration system is operating at peak efficiency. This intelligence is always on the lookout, protecting against loss of prime or impedance of flow, under and over voltage situations, and thermal overload or freezing.

Simple to program and operate.
Now you no longer need pump curves and hydraulic calculations to determine the right pump for the job. Just program for your desired water turnover, and IntelliFlo does the rest.
Now there's truly one pump for every application...IntelliFlo!

Filter Systems
Sand Filter
Sand filters are one of the most popular ways to filter water. For good reasons. They are simple, effective, and require very little attention. Pool water is routed through a sand-filled pressure vessel.

Over time, dirt accumulates in the spaces between the sand particles, causing the pressure in the vessel to rise as water finds it harder to pass through. This signals you to "backwash" the filter. Simply reverse the water flow and "knock out" the dirt. What could be simpler?

But all sand filters are not created equal. For optimum filtration, all the water must flow through the same amount of sand at the proper rate. That's why all Pentair sand filters feature a special internal design that keeps the sand bed level, ensures even water flow, and results in the most efficient filtration possible. That's why more than 2,000,000 Pentair filters have been installed worldwide.
Cartridge Filter
Looking for top-end filter performance with the lowest maintenance? Look at a cartridge filter. This long proven design uses special filter elements to strip particles from pool water with great effectiveness...particles as small as 10 microns in size (particles smaller than 40 microns cannot be seen by the human eye). Maintenance? Open the top. Remove the cartridge. Hose it off. That's it.

But all cartridge filters aren't the same. And the secret to the most effective filters is the design and consistency of the cartridge itself. Are the materials manufactured for the utmost consistency of all surfaces to block and trap the maximum amount of solids? Are the most durable materials used to maximize the cartridge's life? Is maximum surface area designed in to capture the most dirt and provide the longest periods between cleanings?

All Pentair filters feature cartridges made to demanding specifications under the strictest quality control standards to make certain they produce the cleanest and clearest water while standing up for the long run.
Diatomaceous Earth Filter
Trap more dirt. Clean less often.

Filtering with diatomaceous earth (D.E.) results not just in clean water, but water that really sparkles. That's because D.E. filters remove particles as small as 3-5 microns.

Even though particles smaller than 40 microns can't be seen with the naked eye, large quantities of these microscopic contaminants have a very noticeable effect on water clarity. And D.E. strips them away. D.E. filters not only filter better, they can make your life easier...if two goals are met. First, is to maximize the filtration area. Because more filter area means much longer periods between cleanings.

Second, is to design a system that requires the least amount of pumping power to achieve a needed flow rate. Because lower pumping power means lower utility costs.

That's why all Pentair D.E. filters feature curved D.E. grids to maximize surface area. It's why their internal design has been refined over decades to absolutely minimize flow restrictions. No wonder more than 2 million Pentair filters have been installed worldwide.
Sanitation
Chlorine
Chlorine is a very popular swimming pool chemical that can be purchased in the form of tablets, grains or sticks. Chlorine keeps a pool sterile by killing germs and bacteria commonly found in water.
Chlorinators are used to automatically dispense chlorine in a pool after you set the appropriate dose for dispensing. They offer a great way to ensure that the pool is maintaining the proper chemical levels. Some are available as flotation devices that freely float around the pool.
Salt (Chlorine Generator)

Ozone
The Clear O3 water purifying system is the perfect addition to any new or existing pool for the cleanest water possible. The cylindrical chamber of the Paramount Clear O3 system is optimized for maximum ozone generation and is sealed to minimize ozone leakage so it effectively adds more ozone with less airflow to the pump. Adding a Clear O3 system to a pool adds a cleaning process similar to the process for purifying bottled water, and also reduces the demand for pool chemicals by up to 60%.

The Clear O3 uses a powerful UV light system, where ozone is created from oxygen the same way it is formed in the atmosphere. This ozone is then used as a pure oxidizer for the swimming pool. The Clear O3 acts as a continuous chemical free shock to provide the cleanest and clearest water possible.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS
• Clear O3 has the highest concentration of ozone with the
least amount of air injected
into the system
•
Changing UV bulbs is easy and can be completed in a matter
of minutes
• The cylindrical ozone excitement chamber is designed
to maximize ozone production
• Sealed aluminum construction virtually eliminates ozone leakage
• Adjustable mounting tabs allow for easy installation near
pool equipment
• Clear O3 reduces chemical demand by up to 60%, making
your pool chemicals work
more effectively
•
Designed to have ozone output at the bottom means working
with gravity for a more
efficient ozone delivery system
•
Introducing ozone into the pump actively removes chlorinated
compounds, increasing
the lifespan of pool filters and other
pool equipment
Cleaning System
Vacuum (Suction Cleaner)
Suction cleaners are hooked up to a dedicated vacuum port or directly connected to the skimmer that works in conjunction with your pumping and filtration system. The suction cleaner works best when connected with a dedicated vacuum port, this allows the skimmer to be used simultaneously with the cleaner.
In-Floor Cleaning
PV-3 automatically cleans your whole pool with pressurized jets of water. PV-3 uses efficient, random nozzles to clean large circles without creating a star pattern on your pool floor.

PV-3 is designed for simplicity and dependability, without any springs or ratchets to malfunction. Equally important, PV-3 installs inside thick, schedule 40, pipe to keep your pool strong for a lifetime. Protect your investment, don't allow thin wall pipe in your pool! PV-3 is flush with the floor when not in operation so your pool is always beautiful and ready to enjoy.

1. Warm, clean water is pumped to Paramout's Patented, Six-Port Water Valve, a non-electric controller that effeiciently distributes water to all areas of the pool and spa.

2. Your computer designed pool System is divided into six separate cleaning zones, which are turned on and off by the Six-Port Water Valve.

3. Each cleaning zone has computer designed nozzles located within it to guarantee a high pressure jet of water blasts away all dirt and debris in its path.

4. One by one, the Water Valve delivers filtered water to each zone of the pool, automatically moving dirt and debris to the drain and skimmer where it is removed.

5. Debris is collected in the deck mounted skimmer and optional canister for convenient removal.

6. Dirt and other water born impurities are removed from the water by the filter, completing the cleaning cycle.

Conventional Pool Circulation & Heating
Traditional pool design uses an old fashion method of returning filtered water back to the pool through wall inlets near the surface of the water. This is better than nothing, but returns don't put the heated and purified water on the bottom where it is really needed. Worst of all, by returning heat and chemicals near the surface, the wind and sun can quickly steal them from the water. Tests run by an outside company have shown that non in-floor pools consume up to 50% more chemicals and 30% more heat.

PV-3 Circulation & Heating
The state-of-the-art, PV-3 returns fresh water to the floor of the pool where it can quickly kill algae and bacteria before it grows. The same powerful jets of water that will clean your pool, efficiently distribute warm, purified water throughout the floor of the pool, keeping it away from the surface as long as possible. PV-3 delivers cleaner, warmer and healthier water, so your pool is ready to enjoy when you are.
Debris Containment Solution
Minimize Maintenance, Maximize Fun!

When dirt, sand, leaves, and debris fall into your swimming pool, they usually end up sinking to the bottom. The Paramount Debris Containment Canister provides a convenient place to collect debris for easy removal, right from the deck of the pool! With a capacity 400% larger than your average pump basket, you can dispose of the contained debris easier and less often.

Conventional pools accumulate debris quickly. Pools equipped with the Paramount Canister are cleaner pools with debris held out of sight and ready for easy disposal. The Paramount Canister connects to the suction side of the pump, using the power of the pump without robbing performance and allowing your pool builder to install a smaller, more economical pump.

Heat Pumps
Heat flows naturally from a higher to a lower temperature. AquaCal heat pumps, however, are able to force the heat flow in the other direction, using a relatively small amount of high quality drive energy (electricity). AquaCal heat pumps transfer heat from the air, to a swimming pool or spa application.

In order to transport heat from the heat pump to the pool water, external energy is needed to drive the heat pump. The total heat delivered by the heat pump is equal to the heat extracted from the air, plus the amount of drive energy supplied. Electrically-driven heat pumps from AquaCal typically supply 100 kWh of heat with just 20-40 kWh of electricity.

Because AquaCal heat pumps consume less primary energy than other heat pump systems, they are an important technology for reducing gas emissions that harm the environment.

Let's recap:
• An AquaCal heat pump does not create heat, it simply moves
heat from one place to another
• The heat that an AquaCal heat pump works with comes from the
outside air (or, with water source heat pumps, the heat source
may be well water, rivers, lakes, ground loops, etc.)
• It is much less costly to move heat than to create new heat

Other Features
Natural and Artificial Waterfalls, Grottos and Waterslides
Water features are becoming more and more common in backyard pool designs. An inground pool can be designed to incorporate these features during construction, or you can add them later on to an older pool.

Pool waterfalls offer many benefits to a swimming pool. The sound of flowing water and the appearance of a waterfall will transform any pool into a relaxing backyard oasis.

There's no limit to the imaginative ways you can add waterfalls to your pool landscape. Here's a few popular waterfall designs:
• Cascading over real or artificial rocks before trickling
into the pool.
• Flowing from a wall that is raised and decorated
with colorful tiles or stones.
• Spilling from an adjacent spa or hot tub as an effective
way to unify the two spaces.

Waterwalls are created by allowing water to flow over a wall into some kind of containment or recycling area. The width and flow of a waterwall gives the visual appearance that you are looking at a piece of glass. Most flow from the top edge of the pool and can extend for the entire length of the pool's wall.
Custom Fountains
Swimming pool fountains have many aesthetic benefits that will enhance any pool design. Pool fountains not only offer a dramatic focal point, they create a soothing sound that can turn any yard into your own private oasis.

Pool fountains can either float or be fastened to the pool's wall, although some are incorporated into the pool's design as a built-in addition.

Floating fountains are ideal for pools and easy to install. Typically, they resemble a disc that sprays water upwards. Some floating pool fountains are multi-tiered while others have unique lighting capabilities. Floating fountains have been designed as flowers, angels and even swans. You can even purchase floating fountains that rotate to give the impression the water is "dancing."

Wall-mounted fountains are also popular because they allow you to adjust the height, direction and amount of water sprayed. One fountain on the market is a flower pot that sits by the pool's edge and flows water into the pool. Most floating and wall-mounted systems work in conjunction with the pool's filter system.

In addition, you can purchase custom-built pool fountains with elaborate and unique designs. Custom pool fountains can also be used in conjunction with fiber optic lighting to add extra pizzazz using color for a dazzling nighttime effect.
Decking
Concrete is popular choice for pool decks as it is strong and affordable. Concrete is not only long-lasting, it is practical because, unlike bricks, there is no room for weeds to grow through.

Acrylic decking can be stamped to mimic stonework including cobblestone, tiles or bricks. Adding patterns and different color tones add flair to a practical and durable pool deck material.

The cost of stamping, stenciling or coloring concrete varies according to pattern, tone and amount of time the project will take and is normally priced considerably more than normal concrete. In some cases it may still cost less than many natural stone options.

Interlocking bricks or stones are also attractive and very popular. Stones and bricks are often set in mortar (a cement and sand mix) or sand and are available in many different colors and designs. There are numerous assortments of natural and synthetic stones that will match any backyard design.
Waterline Tile
Pool tiles are a great way to add some distinctive touches to your backyard pool. Pool tile textures range from the very smooth to the rougher and patterns can range from multi-colored art deco tiles to simple floral designs. Pool tiles today can even mimic granite or marble if that is the look you want.

Luxury Pools and Spas has a large selection of waterline tile, glass tile and mosaics to add your own personal touch to your pool. We can also take any tile and have it custom made and fitted with fiber optic lighting.
Spas
Pool spas are a fun and practical design element to add to your backyard haven.
Pool spas are similar to traditional hot tubs, since both use powered jets to create soothing motion in the water. Pool spas can be part of an inground pool design or above-ground freestanding structures, and can be purchased pre-fab or custom-made.

If you are building an inground pool, you can attach a neighboring pool spa either on the same level or at a different level - or even place the spa in another location away from the pool itself. One advantage of having a pool spa attached to your pool is that they are able to share similar pieces of equipment, such as a heater.
Vanishing Edge Pools
Luxury Pools and Spas specializes in Vanishing Edge Features. The Vanishing, Infinity or Negative edge pool or spa design features at least one section of the pool over which water continually flows into a catch basin below. This water movement over the edge makes it appear as if the water is connecting with the landscape elements behind it creating an illusion of uninterrupted space. Europeans have been building these types of designs for over 100 years. The first negative edge pool in the U.S. was built in the 1950s, when architect John Lautner designed 'Silvertop' for a private residence in Silver Lake, California. Interestingly, popularity in the United States only dates back to the early 90's.
In order for this type of complex feature to work efficiently and function properly, many factors must be taken into careful consideration, including the sizing of catch pool, the overflow gutter, the perimeter systems, and the surge vessel displacement calculations. These careful calculations allow for water and bather displacement, as well as adequate circulation. Luxury Pools and Spas specialize in Vanishing Edge Features and know just how to engineer the vanishing edge that you want.
Vanishing Edge pools are commonly referred to as:
• Negative Edge • Infinity Edge • Zero Edge
Swim Up Bar
Swim up bars are a great way to add a place that you can cool off and have your favorite drink while watching the sunset or entertaining guests. Swim up bars can be designed to also have your outdoor kitchen or brick pizza oven built in the sunken bar area that connects to the swim up bar.
Water Slide
A water slide will provide hours of fun your children and can be built into a water feature so they are visually appealing. Slides can be custom made out of the same materials as the pool or can be purchased in many different style as a stand alone structure.
Bubblers
Bubblers can be added in the steps of the pool and are an inexpensive way to keep the little ones entertained.
Fun Bubbles
Fun Bubbles use forced air and water from the bottom of the pool to give the pool an eruption of bubbles on the surface of the pool.
Interior Surface
Plaster
Luxury Pools and Spas will help you decide what interior finish will best fit you needs. All of our design consultants realize how important the color and texture of the interior surface is to our clients. Each of our clients will meet with there design consultant to colorize the pool in our show room.

Plaster or marcite is also a popular swimming pool surface. Plaster can be in traditional white although many other colors are now available which increase the aesthetic appeal of a plaster finish. Some plaster surfaces mix marble or quartz to specifically add unique color and texture to the pool's wall and floor.

Landscaping
Pool Landscaping
The options in pool landscaping are limited only by your imagination. Your swimming pool's shape, size and design will be the focal point of your landscaping design. From that starting point, it is important to combine practicality with aesthetics for a backyard that truly reflects your personality and taste.

Making choices about pool landscaping isn't always easy. You can choose curved walkways and rounded flower beds, or a design that is entirely linear and straight. The pool landscaping can coincide with the shape of the pool or it can be entirely different to contrast. Landscaping around a pool can be minimalist or wildly eclectic, involving simple designs or ones that incorporate garden art, ponds, stone pathways and sitting areas.

There are four important considerations when creating your pool landscaping plan:
• Don't include trees that are too large or messy, as this
will make pool maintenance difficult.
• Make sure that such things as grass clippings and water
run-off do not make their way into the water.
• Use the pool's design and color as the most important
consideration for landscaping.
• Your deck or patio's appearance, as well your choice of fence,
will also be strong factors in your ladscaping design.

Personal Considerations in Pool Landscaping
Define what you want to use your garden or patio space for. Your space, furniture and design will be affected by whether you use it for reading, relaxing, playing or entertaining.

If relaxation is your goal, consider soft flower colors and perhaps a hammock. If entertaining is your purpose, consider a built-in fireplace or fully equipped barbecue plus a large patio and a spacious lawn to better accommodate guests.

Personal taste is absolutely important and yard art will define a theme and tone around your pool. If you love the sounds of nature, consider wind chimes, bird baths or feeders. Ponds and fountains are also great for relaxing and soothing noise.

Environmental Considerations in Pool Landscaping
Your pool landscaping design will depend on whether your backyard has any physical or architectural limitations. These include hills, irrigation or telephone poles. For slopes or hills, retaining walls or a raised deck may need to be part of the design.

Environmental factors will also determine your backyard's look. A patio should also have wonderful view and be situated out of the wind. Placing a patio close to your house will be the most practical. Also, think where you receive sunlight and at what times. Sun exposure will determine plants, shrubs and awnings. If privacy is a concern, fencing, trellises, vines, ivy and hedges may need to be considered.
Pool Decks and Patios
The type of patio or pool deck that you choose on will probably affect certain landscaping elements. Patio and deck materials are crucial. Wood is the most common material used in decks. For pool patios, concrete, brick, cobblestone and marble can be used. A deck or patio should be non-slipping and cool to walk on as well as aesthetically enhancing. Wooden decks work well with wooden trellises or privacy screens and matching flower boxes. A concrete pool patio will better match stone fountains and concrete art.
